Save our NHS

The NHS is collapsing in front of our eyes. This national crisis demands urgent action. Ambulance services across the country have declared “critical incidents" while patients are tragically losing their lives in hospital corridors, in ambulances queuing outside A&E, and at home due to delays.

Manuelas’ 5-Point Winter Plan for Ambulances

  1. Fix Social Care: Introduce a fully funded programme to discharge medically well patients into appropriate social care. The current Government’s Adult Social Care Discharge Fund falls short, taking funds from existing NHS budgets and delaying deployment until late January.

  2. Increase Hospital Beds: Boost hospital bed capacity and ensure adequate staffing to reduce ambulance handover delays caused by insufficient bed space.

  3. Expand Community Mental Health Support: Provide appropriate care through expanded mental health services and ‘emergency mental health departments’ to relieve pressure on A&Es and ambulances.

  4. Paramedic Recruitment Drive: Retain, recruit, and train paramedics and other ambulance staff to ensure proper staffing across emergency services.

  5. Ambulance Delay Transparency: Pass the Ambulance Waiting Times Bill to publish clear, localized ambulance response time data. Publish 12-hour A&E wait times from hospital arrival instead of the “decision to admit” for full transparency.

A New Era for the NHS and Social Care

The crisis facing our NHS is the result of years of mismanagement. A failure to deliver promised hospitals, tackle spiralling waiting times, and prioritize health services has led us here.

Manuela is fighting to restore our health and care systems and holding this new Government accountable. Her vision includes:

  • Access to GPs: Guarantee a GP appointment within seven days or 24 hours for urgent needs by recruiting 8,000 full-time equivalent GPs.

  • Fixing ‘Dental Deserts’: Ensure everyone has access to an NHS dentist by reforming the NHS dental contract and attracting dentists back from the private sector.

  • Boosting Cancer Survival Rates: Guarantee all urgent cancer referrals start treatment within 62 days.

  • Strengthening Public Health: Increase the Public Health Grant to prevent illness and improve community health.

  • Improving Mental Health Services: Establish walk-in mental health hubs for young people and regular mental health check-ups.

  • Reforming Social Care: Provide free personal care, introduce a higher Carer’s Minimum Wage, and deliver a workforce plan for social care.
