Over the past three years, water companies have pumped sewage into our rivers, lakes, and seas more than 1 million times. The previous government allowed this environmental disaster to happen and expected taxpayers to foot the bill for cleaning it up.

Water companies must clean up their own mess. It’s time for real action to end this sewage scandal.

Make them pay!

After decades of water companies getting away with destroying our local environment, Manuela Pertegehlla MP is fighting to ensure water companies pay up to clean up Stratford on Avon's rivers and waterways.

1. A New Clean Water Authority

Replacing the ineffective Ofwat with a stronger regulator that has real power to hold water companies accountable.

2. No More Bonuses for Polluting Water Company Executives

Water company executives will be banned from receiving bonuses until sewage dumping comes to an end.

3. Blue Flag Status for Rivers

We will introduce special protected status for rivers, similar to Blue Flag beaches.

Legally binding targets will prevent sewage dumping in these sites.

Blue Flag rivers will ensure safe swimming conditions and thriving wildlife.

4. Massive Expansion of Marine Protected Areas

To protect coastal marine wildlife, we will expand the Blue Belt of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to cover at least 50% of UK waters by 2030. This will:

Stop sewage and plastic pollution
Protect marine biodiversity
Include partnerships with UK Overseas Territories and mandatory government monitoring.
