On Friday 4th July, I was pleased to chair a multi-agency meeting in Wootton Wawen, bringing together local councillors, Warwickshire County Council officers, Warwickshire Police, local councillors and residents to address growing concerns around traffic speed, road safety in the village.
Residents clearly and passionately voiced their concerns about persistent speeding on Mayswood Road, Alcester Road, the A3400, and other routes—particularly at peak times and during the evenings.
I am grateful to the WCC officers, Police, local Councillors and Traffic Calming Group representatives who attended and listened to these issues. I was especially pleased to hear that Wootton Wawen is being considered as part of a pilot scheme to trial a new mobile speed camera trailer, which—once fully approved—could offer more flexible and effective enforcement across rural areas.
We also discussed long-awaited traffic calming measures on Mayswood Road, including speed cushions and improved signage. Plans are being finalised and I will be pressing for swift progress. In addition, we agreed that pedestrian safety must be a priority, and a zebra crossing survey commissioned.
Finally, we explored new ways of working together, including the potential for parish council match-funding, and I’ve committed to writing to the Home Office to press for approval of new camera technology that could make a real difference to villages like Wootton Wawen.
This meeting was an important step in bringing partners together and holding authorities to account. I will continue to follow up every action agreed—and push for meaningful change that helps residents feel safer in their communities.
Thank you to everyone who attended and spoke up.
